David Helkowski, a consultant working on a University of Maryland website, hacked university servers to demonstrate to his superiors and the university how vulnerable the servers were, and found himself facing down an FBI raiding party as a result. Helkowski told the entire story on a Reddit IamA thread earlier this week, offering a PDF copy of the FBI's search warrant as proof of his identity and his story. In November 2013, Helkowski was an employee at a software-consulting company, working on a University of Maryland website.
